Motherhood is expensive – no mother
should have to choose between diapers and food. That's the
belief Caroline Kunitz and Melissa Ratcliff share and the
idea behind the LA Diaper Drive. Their mission is simple:
change the world, one diaper at a time.
After meeting in a baby group for new mothers, Caroline and Melissa
discovered their shared passion for contributing to the community
they call home. They decided to put their talents to work helping
low-income mothers. LA Diaper Drive began in 2005 and the outpouring
of support has been overwhelming.
Prior to founding LA Diaper Drive, Caroline worked as a casting
director for many of television’s most popular reality-based
shows, including “Fear Factor,” the original “Temptation
Island,” and “Dog Eat Dog.” Her philanthropy experience
has spanned almost twenty years and includes the Special Olympics,
the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles,
and, most recently, Harvest Home, a home for pregnant women in crisis.
Caroline received a Master of Public Policy from the University
of Southern California in addition to a Master of International
Business Administration from Richmond College in London, England.
She received her B.A. in History/Art History from the University
of California, Los Angeles.
Prior to founding LA Diaper Drive, Melissa worked as a communications
strategist for The White House, non-profits and in politics.
As the Director of Communications at The Broad Education Foundation,
she established the communications office and built the foundation
into a nationally recognized leader in public education. Before
that, Melissa served as Deputy Communications Director for
the Vice President at The White House during the Clinton Administration.
She designed and supervised the media operation at the Democratic
National Convention in Los Angeles. She has also served as
Chief Spokesperson and Press Secretary at the Democratic National
Committee. Melissa served four years as Press Secretary and
a top strategist for Administrator Carol M. Browner at the
U. S. Environmental Protection Agency. She received her B.A.
in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. |
